Participation of Burundian Head of State H.E Evariste NDAYISHIMIYE in National Prayer Breakfast and Key Meetings in Washington D.C.

On Thursday, February 6, 2025, the Burundian Head of State, His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye, participated in the National Prayer Breakfast alongside his counterparts and world leaders. The event was solemnly opened by the American President, His Excellency Donald Trump, at the Hilton Hotel in Washington D.C.

In his speech, President Trump highlighted that this esteemed tradition began in 1953 and expressed his commitment to perpetuating it by participating in person. He also emphasized that religion in the United States has faced challenges in recent years but will be strengthened.

During his stay in Washington D.C., where he attended the National Prayer Breakfast, His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye held numerous meetings with various leaders and prominent figures. These meetings aimed to establish partnerships that would contribute to the country’s Vision of becoming an emerging nation by 2040 and a developed country by 2060.

On Tuesday, February 4, 2024, the President of the Republic met with Mr. David Beasley, Former Director General of the World Food Program. They discussed the socio-economic situation in Burundi and the efforts of the Burundian people towards economic recovery.

H.E. the president of the Republic of Burundi also received in audience Mr. Roger Jantio, CEO of Sterling Merchant Finance Limited, a financial institution that supports investments in Africa and which would like to initiate investment projects in Burundi, particularly in the mining sector.

“Burundi is a country that is full of potential. Apart from its mineral-rich soil, it has a young and hard-working population. And I can say without hesitation that the Burundian Head of State will achieve this Vision,” he told the press after the audience.

The President of the Republic of Burundi also met with Ms. Valerie Huber, President of the organization “Institute for Women’s Health” who wishes to establish a partnership with the government of Burundi, particularly with a view to improving the health and well-being of women through the PROTEGO Project.

On this first day in Washington D.C., His Excellency Evariste NDAYISHIMIYE received in the audience Mr. Peter Pham, Former UN Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region. They discussed issues related to the development of Burundi and the restoration of peace in the DRC for the maintenance of peace and security in the Great Lakes Region.

On Wednesday, February 5 with a meeting with Senator Steve Daines, member of the Subcommittee on Relations with Africa. He praised the courage and leadership of the Burundian President who instills good values ​​in African youth.

During this meeting, President Evariste NDAYISHIMIYE and Senator Steve Daines also welcomed the good cultural and religious values ​​shared by Burundi and the USA based on faith in God Almighty, family and the protection of life.

The Burundian Number One also met with Senator Lonny Jackson, also a member of the subcommittee responsible for external relations, with whom they discussed, among other things, the possibility for Burundi to be governed by AGOA in turn in order to allow it to export certain products to the United States without customs duties or quotas.

the Burundian Number One finally had fruitful discussions with Dr. Jordan Peterson, a university professor who teaches online courses on financial independence, entrepreneurship, human responsibility for the holistic development of the individual and the human person. The President of the Republic took this opportunity to invite him to Burundi so that he could share this knowledge with young Burundians.

On this sixth day of February, the Burundian Presidential Couple took part in the parliamentary luncheon which took place on Capitol Hill and which was organized as part of the preparatory activities for the National Prayer Breakfast for this year 2025.

A dinner to open the event was also offered late in the evening. It was a time for participants to exchange and share edifying testimonies.

In the closing session of this event, the President of the Republic of Burundi gave a speech in which he presented the topography of Burundi, showing its resemblance to that of Canaan, a country that is full of great potential in agriculture and in terms of natural resources but which are still untapped.

“We come from a hidden garden in the heart of Africa between Central Africa and East Africa, unfortunately we have not yet started to exploit our natural resources, which is why our country remains unknown,” said the Burundian President.

Based on the theme chosen for this year, namely “Friendship around the person of Jesus,” the Head of State said that Burundi experienced this theme during the period of national reconciliation and that thanks to prayer the people were reconciled, that Burundi is now peaceful and stable.
